Scrolling your phone actually competes with incubation — you're feeding your brain new inputs instead of letting it process existing ones. The best incubation breaks involve low-demand physical activity: a walk, a drive, washing dishes, folding laundry. Something that keeps your body occupied while your mind floats.
4. Keep a capture system close. The illumination moment — that sudden "aha" — doesn't wait for a convenient time. It hits in the parking lot, mid-run, or right before you fall asleep. Keep a notes app, a voice memo shortcut, or a small notebook within arm's reach at all times. If you can't capture it immediately, you'll lose it.
